Step 1. Check your SSD: type and length
Two things determine whether an enclosure fits. First, the length. M.2 drives come in 2242, 2260 and 2280 mm; the last format is by far the most common and is supported by most enclosures. The number is often printed on the SSD itself or listed in your laptop's specs.

Not sure? exFAT is the safest all-rounder: it works on almost everything. NTFS also works on Mac, but you sometimes need an extra program there to be able to write to it.
